FIRST PUBLIC MEETING

On Monday October 25, the first public input meeting for the trail feasibility study was held. The Trail Committees of Kinderhook, Stockport and Stuyvesant, and their consultant, the UAlbany Planning Studio, presented and received comments from about 60 residents and property owners in attendance.

The UAlbany Planning Studio introduced how the proposed trails could be beneficial to the communities, promoting healthy active lifestyles, that highlight the Towns’ heritage and history, and provide an economic boost.

The Planning Studio also highlighted the existing conditions of the proposed trails right-of-ways and trail beds – indicating where there are excellent areas of opportunities (ex: attractive vistas) and places with challenges (ex: flood-prone areas).

Most importantly, the meeting provided an opportunity to receive public comment and property owners voiced their concerns about the proposed trail and ways that it could adversely affect farmers. All of the comments were recorded and will be addressed and incorporated into the final feasibility study document, which will be presented at the next public meeting in early December.
